Running a Special Pay Run (Classic Pay Run)

You already know how to process payroll, but sometimes unexpected situations come up. With Beyond, you can run as many special pay runs as you need at no additional cost.

What is a Special Pay Run?

Most businesses process payroll on a regular schedule (weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly). A special pay run is any payroll processed outside of that normal cycle.

A special pay run can:

  • Use the same check date as a regular payroll, or have its own off-cycle date.
  • Apply only to select employees.
  • Exclude regular deductions (like health insurance or retirement contributions).

Example: If you normally pay employees every two weeks but want to issue a year-end bonus between pay periods – and without standard deductions – this is exactly what a special pay run is designed for.

Adjusting Pay Run Settings

At the top of the payroll page, you’ll see your current payroll settings. Click on any of them to edit. From here, you can:

  • Adjust the pay period and check date.
  • Hold direct deposits and issue paper checks instead.
  • Exclude employee deductions if needed.

Choosing Employees

Special pay runs don’t need to include everyone. They can be limited to employees receiving:

  • Bonuses
  • Commissions
  • Tips

Click Uncheck All to clear the list, then select only the employees to be paid.

Off-Cycle Pay Runs

An off-cycle run occurs between your regular payroll cycles. When processing one:

  1. Remove regular pay items (like salary or hourly wages).
  2. Add only the relevant pay types (bonus, commission, etc.).
  3. If no rate is set for that pay type, enter the amount manually in the Override column.

If you don’t see the pay type you need, you can easily add new ones under Payroll Pay Items.

Final Step: Review & Approve

Once you’ve customized the run, simply review and approve payroll just as you would for a regular cycle.

Beyond gives you the flexibility to manage special pay runs whenever you need them—without extra cost or hassle.
