Plan Payroll Around the January 18 Federal Holiday

Monday, January 18, 2027, is a federal banking holiday, which means ACH transactions will be paused by the Federal Reserve. As a result, direct deposit payments could be delayed if payroll isn’t submitted early enough. If your scheduled payday is on or shortly after this date, you’ll want to plan ahead to ensure employees are paid on time.

For paydays that fall on Monday, January 18, you’ll need to update the check date to Friday, January 15, and submit payroll by Wednesday, January 13.

If your payday is Tuesday, January 19, you can keep the check date as is, but you’ll still need to send payroll one business day earlier to avoid any delay in employee deposits

If your business uses a 4-day processing schedule, be sure to submit by the dates below to prevent any disruption in payroll—especially around Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
