Plan Payroll Around the January 19 Federal Holiday
Monday, January 19, 2026, is a federal banking holiday, which means ACH transactions will be paused by the Federal Reserve. As a result, direct deposit payments could be delayed if payroll isn’t submitted early enough. If your scheduled payday is on or shortly after this date, you’ll want to plan ahead to ensure employees are paid on time.
For paydays that fall on Monday, January 19, you’ll need to update the check date to Friday, January 16, and submit payroll by Wednesday, January 14.
If your payday is Tuesday, January 20, you can keep the check date as is – but you’ll still need to send payroll one business day earlier to avoid any delay in employee deposits.
Note: These timelines assume a standard 2-day processing window. For companies using a 4-day turnaround, payroll should be submitted by Monday, January 12 (see the full schedule below).
