Labor Day will be observed on Monday, September 7, 2026. As with all federal holidays, the Federal Reserve will not process ACH transfers on this date, which can cause direct deposit delays.
To ensure your team is paid on time, you may need to run payroll earlier than usual — especially if your payday falls on or immediately after the holiday. If your scheduled payday is on the holiday itself, you will also need to adjust your check date.
For example, check dates originally planned for Monday, September 7 should be moved to Friday, September 4, and payroll should be submitted no later than Wednesday, September 2 to avoid delays.
If your payday is Tuesday, September 8, the check date doesn’t need to change — but payroll still must be submitted one business day earlier*.
