Plan Ahead for Payroll During Federal Holidays

Independence Day falls on Friday, July 4, 2025, and is recognized as a federal banking holiday. On this day, the Federal Reserve halts ACH processing, which can delay direct deposit payments. If your regular payday lands on or directly after this date, it’s important to adjust your payroll schedule to ensure timely payments to employees.

If your check date is Friday, July 4, you’ll need to move it up to Thursday, July 3, and submit your payroll by Tuesday, July 1, to avoid delays*.

If your payday is set for Monday, July 7, no change to the check date is needed—but you’ll still have to process payroll a business day earlier*.

*Assumes a 2-business-day processing window. For 4-day processing, submit by June 27 (see full schedule below).
