Florida Payroll Tax and Registration Guide

Before Beyond can start processing your payroll in Florida, there are a few steps you need to take to ensure your business complies with the state’s employment tax regulations. You’ll need to provide:

  • Your Florida Reemployment Tax Account Number
  • Your State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) tax rate
  • Proper authorization documents such as Third-Party Access (TPA) and Power of Attorney, which are required by most state agencies so Beyond can file and pay taxes on your behalf

It’s your responsibility to ensure this data is accurate and up to date. Beyond relies on the information you provide to file payroll taxes correctly. Any delays or penalties caused by missing or incorrect information fall outside of Beyond’s responsibility.

If you’ve run payroll in Florida before, you can find your Reemployment Tax Account Number on:

  • Your Tax Rate Notice, or
  • The Quarterly Contribution and Wage Report (Form RT-6)

The SUI rate is generally shown in Box 7 of your Tax Rate Notice. Be sure to enter this into your Beyond account.

If you’re unable to locate these documents, call the Florida Department of Revenue at (850) 488-6800 for assistance.

New Florida Employers

If you’re new to hiring employees in Florida, you’ll need to register your business through the Florida Department of Revenue:

  • Visit the Florida Department of Revenue’s e-Services portal
  • Select “Create user profile” to begin registration
  • Once complete, you’ll receive your Reemployment Tax Account Number and SUI rate

Initial SUI Rate for New Employers: Typically 2.7% on the first $7,000 of each employee’s wages.

Important Note: Florida employers are only required to register once payroll totals exceed $1,500 in a quarter, or if they employ one or more individuals for 20 weeks during the calendar year.
