Adding and Updating State Payroll Tax Information in Beyond

Overview
The Payroll Taxes section in Beyond allows you to set up and manage all state-level payroll taxes where your employees are located. The states that appear will depend on your company location and the worksites assigned to employees. Because each state has its own tax rules, every state page may look a little different. It’s important to complete all requested fields so Beyond can accurately file and pay those taxes on your behalf.
Where to Enter Tax Rates
- From the main menu, go to Company > Payroll Taxes.
- Select the state you want to update.
- Enter the requested tax information (IDs, account numbers, rates, etc.).
Paying Employees in Multiple States
If you have employees in more than one state, you must keep tax details updated for each state. Beyond uses this information to ensure payroll taxes are filed correctly.
What Information You’ll Need
The exact requirements vary by state, but typically include:
- State withholding ID(s)
- State unemployment (SUI) account numbers
- Your company’s current SUI rate (which can vary by employer)
- Paid leave contributions (if applicable)
- Administrative fees or surcharges set by the state
Beyond provides a state tax guide under “Help for Employers,” where you’ll find details on:
- SUI rates and requirements
- How to obtain IDs
- Forms Beyond files on your behalf
Keeping Rates Up to Date
When a state changes payroll tax rates, you’ll need to update that information in Beyond to ensure taxes are calculated correctly. Most rate changes take effect either January 1 or July 1, depending on the state.
- Enter new rates as soon as they’re announced.
- You can also schedule an effective date so the new rate applies automatically when it goes into effect.
- Remember that city or local rates may also apply in some regions.
Worksites and Tax Accuracy
Tax calculations are based on each employee’s assigned worksite. If you suspect a calculation is incorrect, you can contact Beyond support to verify that your worksite information is accurate.
Our Tax Accuracy Guarantee
Beyond takes the accuracy of payroll tax calculations seriously, which is why we offer a Tax Accuracy Guarantee. This means:
- We guarantee the accuracy of all payroll tax calculations, filings, and payments we process on your behalf.
- You are responsible for providing accurate information about your company, employees, and state tax IDs/rates.
- If Beyond requests additional information and it is not provided, any affected filings or payments will not be covered under the guarantee.
