Withholding Tax Payment Voucher
• Filed monthly or quarterly
Quarterly Withholding Tax Return
• Submitted every quarter
Statement of Wages Paid and Montana Income Tax Withheld
• Annual filing requirement
Quarterly Wage, Contribution, and Employment & Training Assessment Report
• Due quarterly
Montana New Hire Reporting
• Submitted as required
Existing Employers in Montana

New Montana Employers
You’ll need to register your business with both:

You can find your Withholding Tax Account Number in notices from the Montana Department of Revenue. If you’re unable to locate it, call (406) 444-6900.
New Employers:
Register online with the Montana Department of Revenue. You’ll need:
Registration typically takes 1–2 business days. Once complete, you’ll receive your tax ID and deposit schedule.
Existing Employers:
Your Unemployment Account Number and SUI tax rate can be found in:
Your annual Tax Rate Notice (Form UI-5)
Your Quarterly Contribution and Wage Report
Box 2 of the Tax Rate Notice contains your SUI rate (ranges from 0% to 6.12% on a $45,100 wage base)
New Employers:
Register with the Montana Department of Labor & Industry. Upon completing the process, you’ll instantly receive:
Your Unemployment Account Number
Your assigned SUI tax rate (generally between 1.3% and 2%)
All Montana employers are required to pay the Administrative Funding Tax Rate. The typical rate is 0.18%, and it appears in Box 3 of the annual Tax Rate Notice.
